Petroleum Geology of Northeast Java Basin Field Trip, Surabaya - Solo

East Java Basin is one of the major oil and gas producer sedimentary basin in Indonesia. The first oil and gas refinery in Java was built in this area back in 1893. This field trip invites the participants to visit the rock formations that make up the East Java Basin whose become a key element of the growing oil and gas system. The audience will be also guided to local tourist destinations in Surabaya, Lamongan, Sangiran and Solo, Indonesia

DAY 1 – Main Field Trip Activity

  • Arrival in Surabaya and technical briefing
  • Geotourism: Kenjeran beach tour.

DAY 2 – Main Field Trip Activity

  • Observation and discussion about Sidoarjo mud volcanism (LUSI) phenomena, Mundu formation in Ngimbang and Pegat, Kujung formation in Ketanen.
  • Geotourism: Lamongan beach tour.

DAY 3 – Main Field Trip Activity

  • Observation and discussion about Paciran formation in Brondong, Ngrayong formation in Ngepon and traditional oil mining and drilling in Wonocolo.
  • Geotourism: Texas Wonocolo tour.

DAY 4 – Main Field Trip Activity

  • Observation and discussion about Kuwu mud volcanism, Kerek formation in Alaskobong, and Pucangan formation in Sangiran.
  • Geotourism: Sangiran museum tour.

DAY 5 – Main Field Trip Activity

  • Departure from Solo
  • Geotourism: Souvenir shopping tour.

Field trip leader is academician with PhD in Geology from Departemen Teknik Geologi Universitas Gadjah Mada

Every month from January – December based on the minimum participant’s quota (minimum 15 participants). The training will be delivered on a field trip from Surabaya to Solo, Indonesia. The accommodation during the course are included: tax, free B/L/D during the course, field trip gears, insurance, geotourism, and city tour
