On the Trail of Our Ancestor Field Trip, Surabaya - Solo

The Java island has been the home of humans since 2 million years ago. Our ancestors have roamed this island for million years. In this field trip, we’ll learn how they live, how they adapt, and how they migrate, and how they survive the changes in nature.

In this field trip, we’ll be visiting several stop sites, related to the history and evolution of human. We’ll see Pithecanthropus Mojokertensis, Pithecanthropus Erectus, Meganthropus Palaejavanicus and Homo Wajakensis, the ancestor of Java modern mankind. The explanation will be carried out directly on the field, with a hands-on discussion with the field trip leader. The audience will be also guided to local tourist destinations in Surabaya, Tulungagung, Sangiran, and Solo.

Agenda

DAY 1 – Main Field Trip Activity

  • Arrival in Surabaya and technical briefing.
  • Geotourism: Surabaya culinary and city tour.

 

DAY 2 – Main Field Trip Activity

  • Observation and discussion about Perning and Wajak sites where the oldest fosile of Pithecanthropus Mojokertensis (2.6 – 1.8 millions year ago) and Homo Wajakensis (40 – 25 thousands year ago) are found.
  • Geotourism: Goa Pasir, Tulungagung tour.

 

DAY 3 – Main Field Trip Activity

  • Observation and discussion about Sambungmacan, Trinil and Widodaren sites where Pithecanthropus Erectus (1.8 – 0.8 millions year ago) is found.
  • Geotourism: Van Den Bosch fort tour.

 

DAY 4 – Main Field Trip Activity

  • Observation and discussion on the Sangiran and Dayu sites: Meganthropus Palaeojavanicus (2.6 – 1.8 millions ago) and Pithecanthropus Robustus (1.8 – 0.8 millions year ago) are found.
  • Geotourism: Sangiran and Dayu museums tour.

 

DAY 5 – Main Field Trip Activity

  • Departure from Solo.
  • Geotourism: Souvenir shopping tour.

Instructor

Field trip leader is academician with PhD in Geology from Departemen Teknik Geologi Universitas Gadjah Mada.

Every month from January – December based on the minimum participant’s quota (minimum 15 participants). The training will be delivered on a field trip from Surabaya to Solo, Indonesia. The accommodation during the course are included: free B/L/D during the course, field trip gears, insurance, geotourism and city tour
