Geolegacy of Yogyakarta Field Trip

This fieldtrip invites the participants to visit locations where geological processes determine the natural wealth of Yogyakarta and affect the socio-cultural development of Yogyakarta. This field trip will be visiting several stop sites those are related to the ancient and recent geology of Yogyakarta. The audience will be explained about the geological phenomena in the field, hands-on exercising, observing and measuring and to discuss with the trip leader about the subjects. Audience will be also guided to local tourism destinations in Yogyakarta.

DAY 1 – Main Field Trip Activity

  • Arrival in Yogyakarta and technical briefing. 
  • Geotourism: Yogyakarta culinary and city tour.

 

DAY 2 – Main Field Trip Activity

  • Observation and discussion about modern volcanism, Mount Merapi: geological natural resources and natural hazard potential
  • Geotourism: Merapi Lava tour

 

DAY 3 – Main Field Trip Activity

  • Observation and discussion about the geology of Kulonprogo: ancient volcano and uplifted shallow seafloor.
  • Geotourism: Kalibiru and Hargowilis National park tour.

 

DAY 4 – Main Field Trip Activity

  • Observation and discussion about the geology of southern mountains: ancient submarine volcano and reef platforms.
  • Geotourism: Nglanggran ancient volcano tour and caving tubing in Pindul cave.

 

DAY 5 – Main Field Trip Activity

  • Observation and discussion about the geology of Yogyakarta basin: the parade of ancient Mataram Hindu until Mataram Islam
    and the adapting process to the geology evolution of Yogyakarta.
  • Geotourism: Tourism tour to Boko temple, Kedulan temple, breccia cliff, Berbah pillow lava, Pleret palace, Selarong cave.

 

DAY 6 – Main Field Trip Activity

  • Departure from Yogyakarta
  • Geotourism: Souvenir shopping tour.

Field trip leader is academician with PhD in Geology from Departemen Teknik Geologi Universitas Gadjah Mada

Every month from January – December based on the minimum participants quota (minimum 15 participants). The training will be delivered in field trip in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. The accommodation during the course are included: free B/L/D during the course, field trip gears, insurance, geotourism and city tour.
